Grants and Scholarships

Research Grant

AEIRS is committed to advancing research that enhances the quality of education and practice within the imaging and radiologic sciences. The Research Grant provides funding to support scholarly projects that contribute to the body of knowledge in imaging and radiologic science education, foster innovation in teaching and learning, and promote evidence-based practice. One grant, up to $3,000, will be awarded annually.

The applicant must be the principal investigator and an active AEIRS member for 2 consecutive years, including the year of application. The research must address a facet of imaging or radiologic sciences education or practice with a project duration not exceeding 1 year. The Chair and Vice Chair of the Research Committee are ineligible to apply for a grant.

Submission Guidelines

The supporting documents listed below must be submitted electronically on the application form by April 1, 2026.

The submission must include:

  • the completed application;
  • a cover letter requesting funding listing the names and institutional affiliations of all investigators;
  • a description of the research project (see final question of application);
  • the vitae of all investigators;
  • documentation from all other sources of funding for the project; and
  • if funds are being requested for communication of results, an acceptance letter for presentation of the results of the research project.

Place the documents in the order listed above. Name the file “Research Grant – Last Name”. All supporting documentation must be combined and submitted as a single PDF to be considered. The AEIRS office will acknowledge receipt of the application materials. The Research Committee will not consider applications that do not (a) address all submission guidelines and (b) include all required documents.

LaVerne T. Gurley Scholarship

The LaVerne T. Gurley Scholarship is intended to provide funds to assist an imaging or radiologic sciences educator in attending an AEIRS Annual Meeting. The funding will be awarded during the AEIRS Annual Meeting Business Luncheon, and the scholarship recipient must be in attendance to receive the award. The applicant must be an active AEIRS member during the year of application, currently serve as a full-time faculty member in an accredited imaging or radiologic sciences program and must have served in this capacity for at least 1 year, and must never have attended the AEIRS Annual Meeting. The Chair of the Scholarship Committee is not eligible to apply for a scholarship. One scholarship will be awarded annually not to exceed $1,200. Deadline to apply is April 1, 2026.

Invest In the Future Scholarship

The Invest in the Future Scholarship is intended to provide funds to assist an imaging or radiologic sciences educator who is pursuing a higher education degree at the baccalaureate or master’s level with the intent to teach courses in imaging or radiologic sciences. The applicant must be an active AEIRS member during the year of application, must serve in an accredited radiologic sciences program as a clinical instructor, supervisor, or coordinator, and must have worked in this capacity for at least 1 year. The applicant must have already completed at least 1 semester/quarter in the higher education program currently attending. The Chair of the Scholarship Committee is not eligible to apply for a scholarship. One scholarship will be awarded annually not to exceed $1,000. Deadline to apply is April 1, 2026.

Professional Presentation Scholarship

The Professional Presentation Scholarship is intended to award funds to AEIRS members interested in presenting at a professional organization’s conference. Up to two scholarships will be awarded annually not to exceed $500 each. The recipient is encouraged to attend the AEIRS Annual Meeting Business Luncheon to accept this award. The Chair of the Scholarship Committee is not eligible to apply for a scholarship. Deadline to apply is April 1, 2026.

Philip W. Ballinger Scholarship

The Philip W. Ballinger Scholarship is intended to award funds for an active AEIRS member currently pursuing a graduate degree at the doctoral level with the intent to become or remain a full-time faculty member in an imaging or radiologic sciences program. The applicant must be a graduate of an accredited imaging or radiologic sciences program holding the R.T. radiography credential by the ARRT and/or credentialed in radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, or sonography. The Chair of the Scholarship Committee is not eligible to apply for a scholarship. One scholarship will be awarded annually not to exceed $1,000. Deadline to apply is April 1, 2026.
